The weekend of Ben's birthday we were supposed to go camping. Unfortunately, as sometimes happens in our "fly by the seat of our pants" world, we didn't get around to getting a camping spot until the last minute. So, we opted for a fun late night picnic instead. We brought up some brats and Woofems for a fun campfire night.
Dave was so tired toward the end he just snuggled with me. That was ideal for me because I really don't get to do that...hardly ever.
Sarah loved it an got plenty dirty runing around in the dark with her head lamp.
For Ben's birthday he opted to do a fun activity with the family instead of having a friend party so we decided to head to Park City to the Utah Olympic Park. They have added some really fun things to their already existing fun stuff. Mom and David hung out while Dad and the kids did the Alpine Slide. Then Ben, Rachel and Emily did a ropes course.
Here they are all suited up in their gear. Looking pretty awesome.
The course was pretty challenging for Emily. There were some parts when she got a little bit nervous but she conquered and made it all the way to the end. Even when she had to jump off the tower to zip line to the finish line.
Ben loved hanging from his secure rope and harness. No Fear Ben.
Rachel loved it all too.
Sarah wasn't quite big enough to do the real stuff...but they had a nice little ropes course at the bottom for the babies to play around. It was just enough of a challenge for her.
And then there was David and Mom. David couldn't really do anything. We wandered and played in the wood chips. That was just the right speed for us. Good Times with our family. I love that.

Aaronic Priesthood Ordination
This was a big day. Ben, having turned 12, was ordained with the Aaronic Priesthood. This means he will serve by passing the Sacrament and collecting Fast offerings. It feels like a big moment to me as a mom. My son is moving into a whole new world. Really leaving his child child hood and entering into a middle aged childhood. HAHA.
We were so blessed to have two set of grandparents who were able to come show their support on this pivotal day in Ben's life. I often reflect on how thankful I am for these two sets of wonderful grandparents.
I love this picture most of all. It shows what fine examples Ben has in his life as he strives to keep covenants and serve in his priesthood duties faithfully. He loves these men in his life. I know he admires them.
I am really so proud of Ben. He is a normal boy who does normal boy things. Yet, even as he teases his sisters, hates homework and argues at every turn....I know what's most important to him. He has a deep love and loyalty to his family and God. He is honest and good. He is loving and kind. He is strength to our family and great example to his younger siblings. Love ya Benjamin. :)
